This was a very unconvincing performance from Manchester United. Raphaël Varane came to their rescue with a 76th-minute header and saved Erik ten Hag from some painful questions. Beyond Varane’s moment of composure, United lacked a finishing touch, and even their wealth of wingers could not conjure up chances.
United were also indebted to their new keeper, Andre Onana, the £47 million signing from Inter Milan, for ensuring all the points. Onana, calm and alert, twice saved from the Wolverhampton Wanderers substitute Fabio Silva. Wolves were unlucky not to leave Old Trafford with a point.
Matheus Cunha, their forward, was man of the match for the way he kept leaving United players for dead. Although departing empty-handed, Wolves can take heart from the spirit of
