Man to be executed for killing university student

Killer Anthony Sanchez is facing execution in Oklahoma today for the brutal murder of university student Juli Busken in 1996, despite repeated claims his dad did it

A death row inmate is due to be executed today despite his continued claims he is innocent and the suggestion his father could have been involved.

Anthony Sanchez, 44, is scheduled to receive a lethal three-drug injection for the killing of a University of Oklahoma dance student in 1996. The case of Juli Busken’s death went unsolved for years and Sanchez wasn’t convicted until 2006.

Sanchez is due to die at 10am CDT (4pm BST) at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.

Despite appeals and attempts to save his life, Sanchez did not present a clemency application to the state’s Pardon and Parole Board. This led to blame by his former attorneys being levelled on Reverend Jeff Hood, a spiritual adviser who has befriended a number of death row inmates over the years.
