A man has been detained by police after appearing to throw eggs at King Charles and the Queen Consort during a walkabout in York today.
The royal couple were being welcomed by city leaders when three eggs were hurled at them, all of which missed before they were ushered away.
The lone protester was heard to shout “this country was built on the blood of slaves” as he was bundled to the ground by several police officers behind temporary fencing at Micklegate Bar.
Onlookers in the crowd started chanting “God save the King” and “shame on you” at the man.
