Plans for a new “lean luxury” hotel that will transform one of Scotland’s most famous streets are heading for approval this week.
Ruby Hotels, a German hospitality giant, is investing £100 million in the 300-room hotel on Princes Street, Edinburgh.
The project, which will create 250 permanent jobs, spans the former Next store on the historic thoroughfare as well as shops formerly occupied by Zara and Russell & Bromley.
It is expected to be the largest single investment on the street since the Johnnie Walker Whisky Experience opened in 2021 in the former House of Fraser at the west end of the street.
If it is approved by councillors on Wednesday, it will speed the transformation of Princes Street, with its commanding views of Edinburgh Castle, away from retail to tourism.
