Fewer than 150 solo American female founders have raised more than $5 million in their first round investment from venture capital firms; virtually none then move to London.
Aimee Yang, however, likes doing things differently. Fresh from securing a $170 million valuation in June for her two-year-old, low-carb, high-protein bagel firm BetterBrand, she has just relocated to London from Los Angeles to lead the company’s expansion in Europe.
Yang, 32, a former consultant at the accountancy firm EY in New York and Bangalore who grew up near Chicago, said: “We have set up our infrastructure in the US so now was the right time to expand. London has quickly started to feel like home.”
