The hairdresser, as viewers know, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour last week, after she collapsed and ended up in hospital following a dizzy spell. The doctors carried out a scan which confirmed her diagnosis, and surgery was set in motion for the following week. Lola was then taken for surgery, after a heartfelt goodbye with beloved boyfriend Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick), and Wednesday's (November 2) outing of the soap dealt with the aftermath of the procedure, as Lola's loved ones awaited news from the medical professionals. Jay wasn't too optimistic, but after overhearing a conversation between the primary surgeon and the doctor who assisted, he came to believe that Lola was in the clear, something which he relayed to Lola when she woke up, telling her she's going to be okay. Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) was horrified at Jay for jumping to conclusions, reminding him that he didn't actually hear Lola's name mentioned in the conversation between the doctors, meaning that he's in no position to be delivering such news to Lola. Subsequent scenes saw Billy's theory proved correct, as Lola was told that – while doctors were able to remove some of the tumour – it continues to grow at a rapid rate, with the surgeon then branding the tumour an 'incurable' one. Jay was devastated, feeling guilty for having got Lola's hopes up, while Billy struggled to process the news. 'He thinks I'm going to die, pops!', said Lola to Billy, through tears. It was confirmed last month that Lola would be diagnosed with a brain tumour. Talking about the storyline, Danielle Harold said: 'It means so much to be trusted with a storyline like this – one that's close to many people's hearts.
