Locals baffled by tiny double yellow lines that only go for 30cm in new road layout

Council workers painted the yellow lines amid work to create a new cycle path – appearing to notify drivers not to park vehicles smaller than 30cm on the designated spot

Locals in Edinburgh have been left baffled after a tiny double yellow line appeared on their residential street.

With the introduction of a new cycle path around Melville Street, locals spotted a tiny double yellow line on Manor Place, a nod to the areas’ former layout. The street offers parking for permit holders but on the corner just outside of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, for just 30cm, you can’t park, reports Edinburgh Live.

One local George Johnson, 79, said: “It’s quite funny, I suppose. But I was a lorry driver for years and had to follow the highway code. But nowadays, I’ve noticed no-one follows the roads or cares about the road markings.”

George was sitting on the bench between Manor Place and Melville Street when a pickup truck drove straight across the new flagstones from Manor Place to Melville Street. He said the flagstones however were not designed to take the weight.
