Jamie Carragher has now increased what he thinks Liverpool should accept for Mohamed Salah. However, the former defender is still convinced the Egypt star will stay put at Anfield beyond the transfer window. Liverpool have rejected a verbal offer from Al-Ittihad worth up to £150million for Salah. The Saudi side are set to return with an improved offer despite the Reds’ insistence that he will not be sold this summer. Only this week had Carragher insisted that a fee of £150m would be where Liverpool should start to consider selling him. However, now that offer has been made, he has been forced to backtrack. Carragher is now wanting up to £200m for Salah, despite it being above his market value. He said on Sky Sports: “I want more money. I want more! I actually think Mo Salah, when you look at what [Harry] Kane went for, about £100m and he’s maybe a year or two younger. “But he only had a year to go. Salah has two years to go. He looks after himself brilliantly well. “For Liverpool to sell right now, they’re not going to want what he’s worth – they’ll want well more than that. He’s probably not worth £150m if there’s no Saudi Arabia situation at the moment. “He’s probably around £100m. Why have they left it so late? If they wanted him that badly and are prepared to spend that much money, why didn’t they make this bid six weeks ago or a month ago? They’d have had a decent chance of getting him.” Carragher believes Salah could have rubbished the reports about a potential exit by making a statement on social media, as his agent did earlier in the window. He added: “Every player who is involved in negotiations or talk of moving, they can kill it straight away. They can go on their social media channels if they want to. “His agent came out three or four weeks ago when this felt more like a rumour. He said ‘If we wanted to leave, we wouldn’t have signed the contract.’ But it’s up to Liverpool and up to Salah as well. “I think for any player, even for supporters who love him and adore him and don’t want him to move, if that number just keeps going up and up and up there is a stage where you say ‘we can’t turn that down.’ That’s £200m.” Carragher is still hoping Salah won’t leave, with the Saudi window not closing until next Thursday. He believes a January exit could be on the cards though. The 45-year-old concluded: “I don’t think it will happen. Because it’s come so late. If this happened four to six weeks ago, it could’ve been a toss of a coin. “This puts Liverpool in a situation where they wouldn’t be able to replace him straight away. If that number gets too big, they might say ‘OK, we’ll get until January.'” We’ll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story.
