Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal about to get good news from Southgate

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all set to be dealt a dose of good news by Gareth Southgate on Thursday afternoon. With the England manager scheduled to name his squad for the forthcoming World Cup, those left out will be given time to rest, recuperate and put in extra training sessions with their clubs. With England’s Group B opener against Iran less than two weeks away, the Three Lions are poised to announce which players have made the cut. The task at hand is a daunting one as Southgate naturally hopes to better his runs at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020, where his side reached the semi-finals and final respectively. While many English players will be waiting with fingers crossed by the phone, managers and staff at Premier League clubs will surely see the bright side for those that have been left out. A six-week break at club level will give a selection of players valuable time to get up to speed and make a tangible impact when domestic action resumes. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may have plenty of Englishmen to work with over the break with Jordan Henderson the only player feeling comfortable about his spot on the plane.JUST IN: Newcastle ‘to make formal offer’ for exciting Argentine Maximo Perrone ‘in next few days’ Jurgen Klopp, Erik ten Hag and Mikel Arteta could all benefit from Gareth Southgate’s omissions (Image: GETTY)Trent Alexander-Arnold has question marks hanging over his head after a rough start to the season, and Southgate doesn’t seem to be convinced by the defensive side of his game. However, injuries to Reece James and Kyle Walker could see the right-back join Henderson in the Three Lions squad. At the very least, Klopp should have extra time to work with Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Joe Gomez, who are all poised to miss out. Liverpool’s defence has been particularly shaky this season with Gomez often deputising for the injured Joel Matip. DON’T MISS…Liverpool ‘assessing Isaksen move’ as Lijnders makes ‘special’ claimEndrick’s stance on joining Chelsea, Real Madrid or PSGMan City boss Pep Guardiola sheds new light on Erling Haaland injury Gareth Southgate is poised to name his England squad at 2pm on Thursday (Image: GETTY)However, a trio of stars remain on the fringes of Southgate’s plans. If Nick Pope, Dean Henderson and Jordan Pickford are preferred in the goalkeeper department, Aaron Ramsdale will be staying behind at London Colney to maintain fitness and sharpness during the six-week break. Ben White is another player loitering on the cusp of the squad, having played superbly for the Gunners this term but been left out of England’s Nations League squad back in September. Emile Smith Rowe, meanwhile, is certain not to be on the plane and Arteta can guide him through continued recovery from a groin injury.
