Cody Gakpo went down injured after scoring for Liverpool in their Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and the club now know the extent of his injury
Liverpool have avoided a nightmare scenario with injured forward Cody Gakpo – but will still be without the Dutch star for a number of games.
Gakpo went down injured in first-half stoppage time, moments after scoring Liverpool’s equaliser in their defeat against Tottenham on Saturday. He didn’t emerge for the second half, with manager Jurgen Klopp later confirming the forward was limping and wearing a brace after the issue.
The former PSV Eindhoven star will miss Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Union Saint-Gilloise and the Premier League trip to Brighton on Sunday. He is expected to return after the international break, though, softening the blow after initial fears the injury could be much worse.
“The biggest problem of the game, to be honest… before Cody Gakpo scored, we got a free-kick and he got injured and he is now with a brace limping down the corridor. That’s my biggest problem, to be honest, in this moment.
