Jurgen Klopp doesn’t seem confident of a new centre-back arriving (Image: LIVERPOOLFC) Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has joked that he’d be keen on bringing in a new central defender before today’s deadline – if it was possible to bring someone in just for this weekend. The Reds are set to sign their fourth midfielder of the summer today with Ryan Gravenberch undergoing a medical ahead of his move from Bayern Munich. The only other area Liverpool were looking to potentially strengthen this summer was at centre-back with fitness concerns over a number of their current options. Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have all struggled with injuries over the past few years. Now Liverpool are without Virgil van Dijk for at least this weekend’s match against Aston Villa with Konate also out with a small issue. It leaves just Matip and Gomez as the senior centre-back options while Jarell Quansah is also an option. Liverpool have been linked with a host of targets to bolster their backline all summer, but time is running out on making something happen. And Klopp has hinted that it’s unlikely the club will be able to bring in a new centre-back before tonight’s 11pm deadline. No, we cant.” Konate is said to have picked up a minor muscle injury, which ruled him out of last weekend’s match against Newcastle. The defender is not available this weekend either, but his injury doesn’t appear too serious as he was called up for France’s senior squad ahead of the international break.
