LIV Golf stars have last laugh as Ryder Cup snub backfires for USA

Brooks Koepka was the only player from LIV Golf to be selected in the Ryder Cup with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson left out and seeing Europe dominate the US to winning the trophy

Team US captain Zach Johnson is likely to regret his decision not to add more LIV golfers to his team after they were defeated handily by Team Europe to lose the Ryder Cup.

Team Europe dominated on Day 1 at Marco Simone, and the likes of Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland fended off a late charge from their American rivals to win 16.5-11.5. The home side clinched the four points required on Day 3 to secure an emphatic victory for captain Luke Donald to claim their first Ryder Cup since 2018.

Johnson made the decision not to select the likes of Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau to his team after they had not gained enough points after not playing on the PGA Tour while with LIV. The only LIV player who Johnson gave a place on the team, was Brooks Koepka, coming in off the back of his PGA Championship victory in May.

His captain’s picks turned out disastrously. Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, Rickie Fowler, Sam Burns and Colin Morikawa all ending the weekend with losing records as Johnson’s picks went badly wrong.
