Valderrama is expected to be confirmed as a LIV Golf League venue for 2023, with the Saudi-funded circuit also looking to sign up “three or four” more big-name players by the end of the year.
A spokesperson for LIV revealed yesterday that there were plans to appoint a few new team captains, with focus falling on world top-20 performers, including US pair Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
At the LIV Team Championship at Trump Doral, 12 quartets are vying to win the $16 million (£14.5 million) first prize, with $1 million being split by the team finishing last.
This $50 million bonanza is the eighth and final LIV event of the year, with a 14-tournament league beginning in February. LIV is lining up a couple more “statement” signings to help kick-start the campaign, with Atul Khosla, the COO who reports directly to Greg Norman, the CEO, highlighted the desire to have the field bolted down before the New Year.
