LIV Golf lures Valderrama as second season takes shape

The Saudi backed tour are promising to lure more players and sign broadcast deals for their second season in 2023

Valderrama is expected to be confirmed as a LIV Golf League venue for 2023, with the Saudi-funded circuit also looking to sign up “three or four” more big-name players by the end of the year.

A spokesperson for LIV revealed yesterday that there were plans to appoint a few new team captains, with focus falling on world top-20 performers, including US pair Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

At the LIV Team Championship at Trump Doral, 12 quartets are vying to win the $16 million (£14.5 million) first prize, with $1 million being split by the team finishing last.

This $50 million bonanza is the eighth and final LIV event of the year, with a 14-tournament league beginning in February. LIV is lining up a couple more “statement” signings to help kick-start the campaign, with Atul Khosla, the COO who reports directly to Greg Norman, the CEO, highlighted the desire to have the field bolted down before the New Year.
