Lily Allen furiously blasted some of the many tributes to Sinead O’Connor, who died at the age of 56 last week. Sinead’s family announced the news in a heartbreaking statement
Lily Allen furiously called out the ‘spineless’ tributes to Sinead O’Connor following her shocking death aged 56. Fans and celebrities rushed to pay tribute to the Irish singer when her death was announced last week.
On July 26, Sinead’s family said they were ‘devastated’ over the singing icon’s passing, writing in a heartbreaking statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
Celebrities, including Piers Morgan, Conor McGregor and more, reminisced about the open and honest singer as they paid tribute to her and discussed her legacy and beliefs. However, some of the tributes didn’t impress Smile singer Lily, 38, who took to her social media to call out the ‘spineless’ messages honouring Sinead and claimed the same people would never ‘align themselves with anybody who stood for something’ in life.
“It’s hard not to feel incensed when there are so many people posting about Sinead and how fearless she was, people who would never in a million years align themselves with anybody who stood for something or had anything remotely controversial to say,” Lily wrote. “It’s so spineless. If you can’t stand up for people in life don’t do it in death. It’s also troubling that people have seemingly felt so empathetic towards her but didn’t feel that they could show it or express it for some reason. until they died. what does that say about us?”
