NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Rather than cars or buildings, the latest Lego set features three colourful insects, with designs inspired by ordinary Lego fans.
For 15 years one of Lego’s most popular toy lines has been sets inspired by fans themselves, ranging from a working piano to Disney’s Winnie The Pooh. The Lego Ideas concept encourages people to send in their own creations to the official website and there other fans can vote on which they think should be turned into an official set.
Any that gets over 10,000 votes is automatically considered by Lego and after a redesign by expert builders they’re sold as a normal set, with the original creator getting a small cut of the profits.
This week Lego have announced the 50th such set, with The Insect Collection. A trio of models which even those that don’t usually like creepy crawlies will find strangely beautiful.
