Leeds could sell seven stars as 49ers plan ‘aggressive’ transfer call

Football Digest: Predicting Wiegman’s England XI Leeds United could be set to deploy an ‘aggressive’ strategy in the transfer market this summer as the Yorkshire club looks to bounce back from relegation under new ownership. A full takeover by 49ers Enterprises was confirmed by United on Monday, with Paraag Marathe, who was previously vice chairman, becoming the new chairman of the Elland Road outfit. Marathe’s remit will include overseeing all aspects of the club, including football and business operations as the Whites seek to plot a route back to the promised land of the Premier League as quickly as possible. But according to Leeds LIVE, identifying new players who can cut the mustard in the ultra-competitive Championship could be preceded by the sale of a clutch of big-name stars who have the pedigree to inject big money into United’s summer transfer budget. The outlet says that Marathe “does not want to be shy” about the club’s promotion push next season and finances are already in place to be “bullish” in the transfer market, but the threat of the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability rules means that they will be limited as to how much activity they can do without “getting into hot water”. Paraag Marathe is the new Leeds United chairman. The strategy of moving on players who can fetch eight-figure fees is highlighted as one that would be particularly beneficial with as many as seven players listed who are considered to be able to achieve such a sum. The list includes goalkeeper Illan Meslier, striker Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, Jack Harrison, Tyler Adams, Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto, but it is unlikely that all seven would be allowed to leave. Forward Gnonto has already reportedly been subject to a £15m bid from Everton that was knocked back, but the 19-year-old could still end up at Goodison Park if the Toffees return with an offer in the region of £25m, according to Leeds LIVE.
