Bronny James is now in a stable condition after collapsing and suffering a cardiac arrest during a USC Trojans basketball practice at Galen Center on Monday morning
A cardiologist fears the basketball career of LeBron James’ son Bronny could already be over after the 18-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday.
Bronny was rushed to hospital after collapsing during a University of Southern California (USC) basketball practice. He was taken into the intensive care unit but is now in a stable condition and out of ICU. The teenager had been preparing for his first college basketball season since graduating from Sierra Canyon School.
Bronny was named a McDonald’s All-American this year and is a projected lottery pick in some early 2024 NBA mock drafts. However, overcoming this setback will be a sizeable challenge with one cardiologist is already warning that a future in the sport is in doubt.
“If they find something that puts him at a high risk for sudden death, then that … may make or break his career,” New York-based doctor Christopher Tanayan told the Daily Mail. “Whether or not Bronny’s career can continue will depend on his family, the league and ultimately his own appetite for risk.” Dr Tanayan add that if hypertrophic cardiomyopathy caused the collapse, that would make playing risky as it relates to abnormal heart rhythms.
