Whether you have a handheld shower head or a fixed one, Sarah Dempsey, cleaning expert at MyJobQuote.co.uk , recommended white vinegar . The expert explained: ‘Remove the shower head from the attached hose and put the small rubber washer to the side as you do this so you don’t lose it. ‘It’s important not to lose this as this is what stops the water from leaking out at the point where the hose meets the shower head. ‘Place the head in a bucket or large plastic container and cover it with white vinegar. Leave it to soak for around 30 minutes, although try to aim to leave it for around an hour if possible.’ If your shower head is made from brass, do not leave it in the vinegar solution for any longer than 30 minutes to avoid damage. Make sure to pay attention to the nozzle as limescale in this area could result in a slow water flow. Sarah added: ‘Polish over the shower head with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Reattach the hose to the shower head and then turn the shower on. ‘This will flush out any remaining limescale and leave your shower head looking sparkling clean.’ Looking for a new home, or just fancy a look? Add your postcode below or visit InYourArea If your shower head is fixed to the wall, there is still a way to properly descale it using white vinegar, according to the cleaning expert. To start with, find a plastic bag which is big enough to fit around the shower head before half-filling it with white vinegar. The expert continued: ‘Place the half-filled bag over your shower head until it is completely submerged in the vinegar. Then, use elastic bands or string to keep the bag in place. ‘Leave the shower head to soak in the bag for a minimum of 30 minutes. Try to aim to leave it for around an hour, if possible. How to use white vinegar (Image: EXPRESS) ‘After the soak time is up, remove the bag from the shower head. Turn your shower on to flush out any limescale deposits that may be left inside the shower head. Repeat the process if needed until all of the limescale is completely gone.’ The acetic acid content in white vinegar is what makes it such a great product to tackle limescale because it won’t damage the shower head unless left for too long. White vinegar can be picked up from a variety of retailers for around £1 and can be used for a variety of cleaning jobs around the home.
