Developers and landlords say government inaction means that looming changes to energy efficiency standards for commercial buildings are unrealistic.
Under the government’s proposals, set out more than two years ago but yet to be formalised, every commercial building in Britain, whether it be an office, shop or warehouse, must have an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of C by 2027. Ultimately the ambition is for them to have a rating of B or above come 2030.
However, the British Property Federation (BPF), which calls itself the “voice of the UK real estate industry”, has said that the delays in firming up the targets will make it almost impossible for many landlords to adhere to the rule changes within that time frame. It wants “immediate clarity”
