Labour race adviser boasted of stopping deportation to Rwanda

Jacqueline McKenzie, an asylum lawyer and Labour’s race equality task force member, faces criticism for her role in blocking a deportation

A key member of Labour’s race equality task force is a top asylum lawyer who boasted of blocking a client’s deportation to Rwanda.

Jacqueline McKenzie is leading challenges to the government scheme in her role as head of immigration and asylum law at Leigh Day.

She sat on the task force, which reported back to the party, as it worked on drafting diversity initiatives for Labour’s next general election manifesto.

A Conservative Campaign Headquarters dossier notes Ms McKenzie was behind one of the legal challenges which forced the grounding of what would have been the first Rwanda deportation flight on June 14 last year.
