Ross McCullum, 30, is accused of murdering his girlfriend Megan Newborough by strangling her before cutting her throat with a carving knife to “make sure she was dead”
A laboratory assistant strangled his girlfriend then cut her throat with a carving knife before dumping her body in a country lane, a court heard.
Ross McCullum attacked HR advisor Megan Newborough, 23, âwith great violence’ in the home he shared with his parents before embarking on an elaborate bid to cover up the killing, jurors were told.
Jurors were told McCullum “fantasised scenarios” and demanded Megan address him as ‘Lord Commander’ in messages recovered by detectives.
Prosecutors said the 30-year-old bundled his victim into her own car before driving to a remote rural location and leaving her hidden in a thicket of bracken and brambles.
