Klopp Liverpool ‘exit clause’ a concern as FSG mull over transfers

With Liverpool enduring a torrid start to the campaign, news has emerged about an ‘exit clause’ in Jurgen Klopp’s contract. The German extended his stay at Anfield earlier this year, with his new deal now expiring in 2026.The Reds are currently ninth in the Premier League and 15 points behind table-toppers Arsenal, with many concluding that the side have sacrificed their title chances after just 12 matches. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have all underperformed so far this season despite previously being Klopp’s most reliable stars. Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s marquee signing over the summer, has shown glimpses of potential but is evidently still adjusting to life in the English top flight.Though it is not just individuals that are costing the Reds, with their general performances leaving plenty to be desired and some even speculating that it is time for Klopp to be replaced on Merseyside. The former Borussia Dortmund has hit back at those claims, saying that he is at the club for the good times and the bad, and suggesting that he could stay until his contract expires.JUST IN: Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta provides Bukayo Saka injury update Klopp has an ‘exit clause’ in his contract (Image: Getty)If that is the case, the Mirror report that the manager has an alleged ‘exit clause’ that states that once the extension expires, the club will ‘oversee his return to Germany’. Klopp has made it no secret that he intends to return to his homeland at some point in his career, though he wants to take a sabbatical once he leaves Liverpool to bide him some time to weigh up if he wants to take on another project elsewhere. It is unknown whether the Reds will be inclined to fulfil that clause for Klopp if he is sacked by the club, or if he walks away from the job and admits defeat. Although the latter appears unlikely, it can’t be entirely ruled out. Bellingham is Klopp’s top target for the summer transfer window (Image: Getty)
