Klopp issues clear response to Salah’s blunt Liverpool formation comment

Liverpool forward Salah insisted that he found it easier to play in a 4-3-3 system after the Reds reverted to their tried and tested formation against Napoli on Tuesday

Jurgen Klopp insists that he may keep changing Liverpool’s formation despite Mohamed Salah’s claim that he finds it “easier” in their well-established 4-3-3 setup.

Liverpool reverted to that system for Tuesday’s Champions League clash at home to Napoli, having previously experimented with a couple of variations of a 4-4-2 – one that at times placed four players in attack, and one that included a midfield diamond.

Prior to that Klopp had almost exclusively stuck to the 4-3-3 system throughout his time on Merseyside, but after a poor start to this season he said that he needed to “reinvent” his side in wake of a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli in September.

Salah scored the opener in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over the same opponents, and when asked about the shift in formations by BT Sport post-match he admitted that he preferred being back in his usual position on the right of the three in attack.
