King has ‘no plan to cut number of working royals’ in surprise U-turn

King Charles’s plans for an anticipated “slimming down” of the monarchy have been ripped up, according to royal experts. The Daily Express’s Royal Correspondent Richard Palmer revealed that Charles and his advisers have “ruled out” cutting the number of working royals. The new monarch’s U-turn comes less than two months into the role. The Daily Express’s Royal Round-Up host Pandora Forsyth questioned the U-turn.She said: “I thought the plan was when Charles took the throne, he would be slimming it down even further.”Mr Palmer admitted he was “surprised” by the news relayed to him by those close to King Charles. He said: “I suspected this would have been a good time for the late Queen’s cousins to decide they could enjoy a few years of retirement having served the monarchy and nation.”But they haven’t done.”JUST IN: ‘Under no circumstances’ Harry poised to hit back at Palace decision King Charles’ plans for an anticipated ‘slimming down’ of the monarchy have been ripped up (Image: GETTY) Anne is also expected to continue to play an important role in Charles’s plans (Image: GETTY)The royal correspondent continued: “What has been made clear to me on behalf of the King, or those close to him, is that currently there is no plan to cut the number of working royals.”When you look at what happens in other European monarchies, the UK has the largest number of working royals.”There is an argument that we have a bigger population and the Commonwealth as well, where an awful lot of work goes on.”But in most monarchies, four or five people tend to represent them. It surprised me.” The Daily Express’ Royal Round Up host Pandora Forsyth questioned the U-turn (Image: GETTY)Charles has long been expected to streamline the list of working royals after taking the throne. The original plan for a lean monarchy was formulated years before the Queen’s death, with a core team of King Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, after Harry and Meghan’s departure, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, took on more public duties. The Wessexes have earned plaudits for their work and are set to remain part of the fray as key parts of Charles’s future monarchy.DON’T MISS:Russian soldiers warns ‘f**kload killed’ every day in leaked call [VIDEO]Mercury to ‘struggle getting to double figures’ in latest UK forecast [FORECAST]’A pact with France could solve the migrant crisis’ [COMMENT] Charles has long been expected to streamline the list of working royals after taking the throne (Image: GETTY)Charles’s sister Princess Anne – who has always been one of the most popular royal figures – is also expected to continue to play an important role in Charles’s plans.Despite the U-turn, Charles is pushing ahead with plans to scale back the Coronation ceremony next year.Royal sources suggest the new King wants fewer rituals and a significantly shorter ceremony than when his late mother was crowned in 1953.Meanwhile, Charles has poignantly taken over as the ceremonial head of the Royal Marines – a position previously held by his son Prince Harry. In the announcement, made on Friday, the King said he was “exceptionally proud” to follow in the footsteps of the role’s predecessors, including his son, and his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh.READ NEXT:King Charles blocked from attending COP27 by Sunak Meghan warned King Charles ‘bewildered’ over ‘hurtful’ comments ‘Under no circumstances’ Harry poised to hit back at Palace decisionArchie ‘may be quite happy’ to share birthday with King’s CoronationPrince Harry will not spend Christmas with the Royal Family
