The Spanish royal family’s passion for sailing is renowned. King Felipe VI took part in a Mallorca regatta this summer as his estranged father, the disgraced Juan Carlos, raced in another competition hundreds of miles away off Galicia.
But the king’s most cherished hobby has become embroiled in a row after the purchase of a €1.8 million yacht for the Spanish navy was cancelled by the government following a claim that it was intended for the monarch’s private use.
