Kate has been tipped for major new role

The Princess of Wales is a sailing enthusiast and it has been reported that the Royal Thames Yacht Club is hoping she becomes their new Commodore – but King Charles is the current patron

Kate, the Princess of Wales, has been tipped to take over a major role from King Charles – but due to royal protocol, she will have to come forward if she wants it.

The Royal Thames Yacht Club is reportedly hoping that the 41-year-old will become their new Commodore after Prince Andrew stepped down in 2021. The patronage was then passed to King Charles, but it has been reported that the club now has its eyes on Kate, who is a sailing enthusiast. Previous patrons of the club included Prince Philip and Lord Mountbatten.

The club launched a new event called “Women Who Rock the Boat” earlier this week in a bid to “encourage women in the sailing world”. A senior member of the club said the Princess of Wales “would be a great role model”.

However, an insider told the Daily Mail that the club cannot approach the palace with the suggestion, but the decision needs to come from within the Royal Family. The source said: “The trouble is, royal protocol dictates that it’s up to her and the Royal Family to make the first move.”
