Lionsgate, the entertainment business behind such shows as Dr Death, John Wick and The Expendables, kicked off its new financial year with a first-quarter rise in revenue to $908.6 million, from $893.9 million, and a sharp fall in net losses to $71.5 million from $122.6 million a year ago.
Revenue from Lionsgate’s 18,000-strong film and television library increased to a record $896 million in the three months to the end of June.
There was a 46 per cent rise in revenue in its motion picture unit to $406.5 million, from $278.8 million, driven by strength in the box-office and home entertainment performance of John Wick: Chapter 4. Television production revenue fell to $218.5 million, compared with $432.3 million a year ago.
