Jurrien Timber sends strong message to Erik ten Hag after snubbing Man Utd for Arsenal

Jurrien Timber snubbed the chance to link back up with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, instead picking Arsenal as his next club, though he still holds the Dutchman in high regard

Jurrien Timber has paid tribute to Erik ten Hag for his work in helping him to become a better footballer.

Timber joined Arsenal from Ajax earlier this summer, snubbing the chance to link back up with Ten Hag at Manchester United. The defender played under the United boss for three years after breaking into the senior set-up at Ajax, winning two Eredivisie titles together.

But that success was not enough to convince Timber to move to Old Trafford, instead picking Arsenal as his next club. The Gunners paid £40million to buy the defender, but he puts his rise in standing down to the work of Ten Hag.

“Erik ten Hag gave me confidence and made me a much better footballer. I decided to stay an extra year at Ajax and develop as a player. Now the time feels right,” Timber said after Arsenal beat Barcelona 5-3 on Thursday.
