Jurgen Klopp ‘wants Liverpool to splash out £52m’ on Malen as Salah back-up

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to sign Donyell Malen from his former side Borussia Dortmund as he looks to acquire a different option on the right. Mohamed Salah has been heavily linked with a move away from the Reds and Saudi Arabian outfits are expected to arrive with fresh offers to try and lure him away over the next 12 months. Klopp rebuilt his midfield over the summer transfer window, allowing ‘the old guard’, such as James Milner and Jordan Henderson, to depart in order to create space for new arrivals. Liverpool then welcomed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo in a bid to breathe a fresh lease of life into the squad. Liverpool have benefitted from the investment, and it would be no surprise if new signings are welcomed in January to aid the overhaul given that some important departments, such as central defence, remained untouched before the start of the season. However, according to SportBild , Klopp is also pushing for Liverpool chiefs to sign another right-winger to provide depth for Salah, with the German boss particularly keen on Malen at Dortmund. The forward scored nine in 26 Bundesliga appearances last season and has kickstarted the new campaign in a similar vein of form, scoring three in six. However, Liverpool will need to cough up a significant fee if they are to lure the ex-PSV star away from the Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund will reportedly demand at least £52million for Malen to leave the club, though the 24-year-old could justify his price tag if he can allow Klopp to rotate his attack more frequently. Salah featured in all of Liverpool’s Premier League matches last season – starting 37 games – and the Reds will be wary of overplaying him in the future.
