Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have lost five midfielders this summer after James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson all left Merseyside
Liverpool are still interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure – despite closing in on the £15.4million transfer of Stuttgart captain Wataru Endo.
The Reds are expected to announce the signing of Endo, 30, in the coming days. The Japan international emerged as a shock transfer target for Jurgen Klopp’s side after Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia both rejected a move to Anfield in favour of joining Chelsea.
Liverpool need to bring in two midfielders – Endo and a younger player – before the transfer window closes. That is because they have lost five midfielders this summer in James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
Klopp has already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively but saw his plans derailed after Fabinho and Henderson quit the Merseyside club. Both players accepted lucrative deals from Saudi clubs.
