Jurgen Klopp had special plan for Kalvin Phillips as Liverpool consider Fabinho replacement

Liverpool are eyeing up a replacement for Fabinho ahead of his proposed big-money move to Saudi Arabia with Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips under consideration

Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips as Fabinho closes in on a £40million transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The Reds received the offer from Al-Ittihad on Friday and Fabinho has been given permission to undergo a medical and finalise the formalities of the deal. The 29-year-old has not travelled with Jurgen Klopp’s side for their pre-season training camp in Germany and is expected to join the Saudi Pro League side.

In the meantime, Liverpool have been eyeing up a replacement for the ex-Monaco man. According to Sky Sports, Phillips is among the players the Reds are looking at. The report adds that Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch and Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina are also on their radar.

Phillips struggled for game time during his debut campaign at City, making just 21 appearances in all competitions as Pep Guardiola’s side won the treble. In fact, the 27-year-old started just four matches, with Rodri getting the nod ahead of him in the defensive midfield role.
