Jurgen Klopp explains why Wataru Endo has barely featured since Liverpool transfer

Wataru Endo has played just 91 minutes of Premier League football since joining Liverpool from Stuttgart over the summer and Jurgen Klopp has explained the reasons behind his lack of game time

Jurgen Klopp has insisted Wataru Endo is a “super-important” player for Liverpool, despite the midfielder’s lack of minutes so far this season.

Endo is one of four new midfielders the Reds signed over the summer, following the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. Fellow new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have started every single game since joining.

Ryan Gravenberch, meanwhile, is being gradually brought up to speed after a lack of minutes at former club Bayern Munich. Endo, however, has been limited to just 91 minutes of Premier League action since joining the club from Stuttgart in August and Klopp has now explained the reasons behind his lack of game time.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over West Ham on Sunday where Endo made a late appearance off the bench in the 88th minute, Klopp said the Japan international was still getting used to life at Anfield and claimed the fact he is “very calm and very polite” had “cost him the first two weeks”. He also insisted the 30-year-old “will start games” and that he is “not a short-term project”.
