Jurgen Klopp comments on Moises Caicedo transfer saga after Liverpool’s draw at Chelsea

Liverpool looked set to smash the British transfer record on Friday as they closed in on the £110m capture of Moises Caicedo but the deal could now be off with Chelsea a more likely destination

Jurgen Klopp remained tight-lipped about a deal for Moises Caicedo after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds were ready to break the British transfer record on Friday morning to sign the Brighton midfielder, but the move now remains in the balance after the Ecuador star showed a reluctance to join, with his preference still a switch to Chelsea

The Blues have chased Caicedo for much of the summer and eventually bid £100m, only to be outdone by Liverpool who were prepared to pay £110m – which would top the record fee paid for Enzo Fernandez by the Blues in January.

Liverpool and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, in a game that underlined why the Reds are in need of a midfield anchor following a summer exodus that has seen the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson leave the club.
