Sadio Mane has completed his big-money move to Saudi Arabia from Bayern Munich – one year since the winger decided to leave Liverpool for the Bundesliga champions
Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have admitted that they are both surprised by Sadio Mane’s struggles at Bayern Munich – as the forward finally completed his move to Al-Nassr on Tuesday.
Mane has joined the Saudi Pro League side in a deal worth around £34million, with the Senegal international set to team up with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle-East. The 31-year-old could make his Al-Nassr debut when they face Zamalek – 11 days before their league-opener against Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq on August 14.
However, Mane’s premature Bayern exit has come as a surprise to many, especially considering he finished second in the 2022 Ballon d’Or behind Karim Benzema. Mane also scored 23 goals in 51 appearances during his final season at Liverpool before leaving to join Bayern last summer.
Ahead of the Reds’ pre-season clash against Bayern, Klopp said: “I don’t know what went wrong [at Bayern]. When he left us, he left us on a high in really good shape, world class player. New environment, new expectations maybe. I didn’t speak to Sadio about it.”
