 Jonnie Irwin spent 18 years presenting A Place in the Sun and changed the course of many families' lives. This includes couple Andy and Linda May, who left their home in Leicestershire for a dream abode in Cyrpus under Jonnie's guidance. The pair credit the programme with not only helping them find a new place to call home but a firm friendship with the host that remains to this day. It all began with a visit to the A Place in the Sun Live exhibition held in September 2018. Long-time fans of the show Linda, 57, and Andy, 69, briefly met Jonnie Irwin and Jasmine Harman, then decided on a whim they'd apply at the event. 'We signed up to do a screen test for a bit of fun but didn't think it would actually come to anything,' Andy explained to Metro.co.uk. 'When they called us back the following March I was eating my dinner. I assumed it was a cold call and slammed the phone down. On that day, they give us tips such as to look interested and interact with each other more. 'We were told weeks later that we'd been selected and were asked which airport we'd like to fly from.' They were more than happy when they landed and found out Jonnie was their host. 'We like him and Jasmine but we're not keen on the others,' admitted Andy. They then embarked on five days of intense filming. As well as the unique rules, such as wearing the same clothing for multiple days in order to aid continuity, they fondly remember their time quickly bonding with Jonnie, now 49.
