John Lewis accused of ‘ignoring’ locals with plan to build tower blocks

Company also faces accusations that it’s deliberately attempting to avoid its plans being scrutinised

John Lewis has been accused of “ignoring” local residents over plans to build hundreds of rental homes in tower blocks.

Locals in the London Borough of Ealing have organised a “Stop The Towers” campaign to block efforts by John Lewis to replace a Waitrose supermarket with residential towers 20 storeys high.

The retailer has been pushing ahead with plans despite mounting opposition, as chair Dame Sharon White wants the properties to boost flagging profits.

A group of Ealing residents have accused John Lewis of publishing hundreds of pages of paperwork during the summer holidays when locals were unable to review and respond.
