John Cleese shut down Australian television presenter Waleed Aly as he refused to chat about Fawlty Towers. “We can’t let you go without taking a bit about Fawlty Towers, at least I can’t because I think it’s one of the best-” Waleed began before John interrupted him. “I don’t want to talk about Fawlty Towers,” he snapped. “But you know, it’s not all about you, is it?” Waleed joked. “Well, you can talk about Fawlty Towers,” John argued before turning in his chair to have his back to Waleed. Is it an anagram?” As the audience gave a mixed response of laughter and gasps, Waleed responded: “No… it’s just Arabic. I take it your Arabic’s not great.” Classic sitcom Fawlty Towers ended in 1979, but a reboot is currently in the works. Previously speaking to The Sun, John explained the plot of the revived show: “The new one starts with Sybil’s death and Basil’s daughter getting a text message from her father saying, ‘Sybil did’. ‘She texts back, ‘Sybil did what?’. Basil is about to deliver the eulogy and says what an absolutely wonderful woman Sybil was. The new character will be played by John’s real-life daughter Camilla. The Monty Python star added: ‘My daughter will probably be a hotelier who’s running this small hotel. “It’s going to be a sort of slightly posh boutique hotel in the Caribbean with a multicultural staff because that’s the world of hotels. And there’ll be no one in except Basil.” It seems no other stars from the original series will be a part of the reboot, as some have given up acting and sadly, Andrew Sachs, who starred as Manuel, died in 2016. John has confirmed the new series, unlike the original, will not be broadcast on the BBC .
