Twitter launched 'grey ticks' under certain users' names yesterday to verify their identity, following concerns Mr Musk's plans to charge people for 'blue tick' verification could make it harder for people to find reliable sources of information on the site. Grey ticks started appearing on the Twitter accounts of public figures and companies yesterday before swiftly disappearing. In response to a user asking why, Mr Musk said: 'I killed it.' Mr Musk has been seeking new ways to drive revenues as Twitter amid a mounting advertiser boycott since his $44bn takeover.
