Jim Ratcliffe: beekeeping billionaire is stung by planners

One of Britain’s richest men’s love of honey has led to a dispute over the building of two barns without permission on his beachside estate.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to keep the structures in the grounds of the seven-acre estate he has created in the New Forest, Hampshire. The chemicals tycoon has had a series of battles with the local planning authority to develop the estate, which was created by the future Lord Montagu of Beaulieu in the 1890s.

Ratcliffe, who is estimated by The Sunday Times Rich List to be worth £6 billion, was eventually given permission in 2017 to demolish a house and cottage and build two new ones complete with a luxury summerhouse.

He has now admitted building two barns last year
