The MTV show turned the reasonably successful popstar couple into household names when it launched in 2003, largely in thanks down to Simpson being an accidental icon. 'Is this chicken or tuna?' and 'do buffalos have wings?' still play in minds rent free and always will. But the show has attracted a new fanbase through clips on TikTok and through a 2023 lens, Lachey is getting a lot of criticism by people rediscovering moments which just hit differently. At one point, he called his then wife a 'brat'. 'You're a spoiled brat. You're a bratty girl,' he snapped. Newlyweds ran for two seasons and was simply iconic (Picture: MTV) 'I am not. I'm a nice girl. I treat you very nice,' she responded, clearly hurt. 'Wow… this hits differently watching now as a married adult,' commented one user while another agreed: 'Growing up is realizing Nick was the problem…. the whole time.' 'It's amazing what publicity can do,' she said of his glowing public image at the time. Simpson and Lachey were married from 2002 to 2006 with Newlyweds running for two seasons on MTV. She is now married to former NFL player Eric Johnson, sharing three children. Lachey is married to Vanessa Lachey, and also share three children. They also present Love is Blind together.
