Jerry Jones makes feelings clear with nine-word statement as Dan Snyder era ends

Dan Snyder has officially sold the Washington Commanders to Josh Harris for £4.7 billion and Jerry Jones sent him a parting message on the “hallmark day” in the NFL

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made a savage comment towards former Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder after the franchise was sold.

For the first time in 24 years the Commanders – formerly known as Washington Redskins before being temporarily named the Washington Football Team – will be under new ownership. Billionaire Josh Harris and his group have officially paid a record $6.05 billion (£4.7 bn) to Snyder for the franchise.

Snyder bought the team for $800 million (£621.7 m) back in 1999, but following pressure after an internal investigation by the NFL he finally agreed to sell. Harris already owns NBA team Philadelphia 76ers and NHL team New Jersey Devils, and now has an NFL team to add to his portfolio.

Following years of disappointment the Washington fans expressed their delight while NFL owners unanimously voted in favour of the sale taking place on Thursday. But Jones seems particularly happy to see the back of Snyder. The Cowboys owner was asked by a reporter: “Would you call this a good day for Washington fans?” Jones smirked as he replied: “I think it’s going to be a great day for the NFL. Exciting. It’s, I think, a hallmark day.”
