However, the programme received a mixed reception with many calling out hypocrisy over the programme being sponsored by a high-end supermarket known for its expensive prices. Waitrose underwrote the show with some viewers calling it 'tone-deaf' whilst other accused Jamie of cashing in on the current cost of living crisis despite him being a top earner. Taking to Twitter, many were quick to express their thoughts on the show and it appeared the programme fell flat for many viewers. One said: "What has this country come to. I can't believe on channel 4, Jamie Oliver is cooking canned beans on the stove as the oven costs too much and boiling water in a pan as it costs less than a kettle. Things really have to change ASAP in this country." Another fan raged at 'millionaire' Jamie, claiming: "Loving the show but a millionaire telling me frozen broccoli is better value is a bit tone deaf" A third viewer commented: "#JamiesOnePoundWonders I want to believe that Jamie Oliver's heart is in the right place (and he's not simply cashing in on poverty) but c'mon. The guy has no idea what meat and other fresh produce cost. He has no idea about the cost of public transport and cooking/heating."
