‘It’s been missing for a while’ – Andy Murray hails inaugural men’s and women’s team event

Andy Murray has praised the introduction of a new annual and ATP and WTA mixed tournament which will offer a prize pot of £13 million to both male and female players.

As revealed by The Times last month, the United Cup will give men and women the rare opportunity to represent their countries together in the build-up to the Australian Open. Tennis Australia today confirmed that the round-robin event will be held across Sydney, Perth and Brisbane from December 29 to January 8.

This is essentially a revival of the Hopman Cup exhibition, which ran in Perth for 30 years until 2019, but with official ratification from the ATP and WTA tours. The vast amount of prize money will make this one of the
