A new map shows exactly how many coronavirus cases are in your area as the disease is spreading rapidly across Britain – while a new variant sparks concern.
According to the latest government data, there were 5,250 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in England in the seven days to August 5, which works out at 9.3 cases for every 100,000 people in the country.
At the same point a week earlier, there were 4,240 confirmed cases, equivalent to 7.5 per 100,000 people.
It comes as one in seven cases across the country have been attributed to the fast-spreading new Eris variant, which has slightly different symptoms to previous strains of Covid.
