However, in order to participate, victims are asked to provide their personal information or even send money in cryptocurrency. "To participate you just need to send from 0.1 BTC to 50 BTC to the contribution address and we will immediately send you back 0.2 BTC to 100 BTC (x2) to the address you sent it from," one fraudulent site reads, per MalwareBytes. To clarify, 0.1 BTC is the equivalent of around $2,606, and 50 BTC is $1,305,600. What's more, an ETH and BTC address are offered for both fake donation options to make it appear more realistic. "This is an incredibly fast path to losing all of your money," MalwareBytes warns in its blog post. "The people behind these kinds of sites are hoping that visitors won't look too closely lest they spot the scam coming apart at the seams," it continued. "Even so, this is a common tactic and a popular way for scammers to encourage panic sending with the promise of huge payouts just out of reach."
