Emma shared: "The caravan is 12 years old, and it is leaking and covered in mould I'm trying to make it feel like a holiday rather than homelessness." Despite owning her own gardening business and having a long history of steady income, Emma is still without a property to call her own. The mum says estate agents and property owners need to do more to help those who are struggling. She said: "The rent had double or even tripled since I've been out here,' she said. 'Every renter out here is traumatised. The stress of it all, it's ridiculous. I just can't keep living like this and I can't keep renting. 'It has broken me.' Emma's friend has set up a GoFundMe to help her get homed or get a new caravan, as the mouldy accommodation is harming her children's help. Another single mum with four children faced being homeless after her landlord sold her house with no warning. Mum Beckie Searle, 39, has been told to move out of her rented house in Northfield, Birmingham within a week - leaving her and her four kids stranded. Beckie can't afford to rent privately meaning she and her children - 20-year-old Tyler, 15-year-old Jodie, eight-year-old Kaine and five-year-old Leyla - face waiting months for a council flat. Kaine has autism and has been hit the hardest by the pressure the family is under, Beckie said. A SINGLE mum has told how she’s been left homeless and living in a mouldy caravan after struggling with rising rent costs.
Emma Lenz, 43, said she has forked out £260,000 on rent over the last 20 years – but the state of the rental market has “broken” her and left her family without a home.
Emma and her two kids were considering living out of their car after they were booted from their Queensland home in Australia.
But a kind couple offered the mum their old caravan to sleep in.
Emma told 7News: “I was just going to sleep in my car, so I put an ad up for places I could park my car to sleep in, and that’s when a couple offered up their old caravan for me to sleep in.
