However, while some of his co-stars have warmed to the disgraced former health secretary, some members of the public have taken a stand and sent a message all the way to the Australian jungle. Campaign groups 38 Degrees and Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice have taken to the skies to send Matt a message he can’t miss. A plane bearing a banner reading ‘COVID BEREAVED SAY GET OUT OF HERE!’ was flown over the ITV show’s base camp as a reminder to the West Suffolk MP. More than 44,725 people have now signed a petition set up by Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice on 38 Degrees’ website calling for ITV to reverse their decision to make him a campmate. Last week, a heated conversation addressing the “elephant in the room” finally took place, with Matt being grilled by fellow contestants over breaching the rules and general decisions during the difficult period. Radio star Chris Moyles asked Matt: “You got a lockdown fine, didn’t you?”
