England centre Mike Tindall was part of the side that won the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, and the I’m a Celeb star celebrated with a vengeance on the way home
Mike Tindall might have a few weeks in the jungle in Australia ahead of him, but it’s his eventual flight home from Oz that could be box office if his past is anything to go by.
The former England international is part of the cast for the latest edition of I’m a Celebrity , meaning he’ll be coupled up in Queensland with the likes of former Health Secretary Matt Hancock and radio DJ Chris Moyles. Tindall is married to Zara Phillips, daughter off Princess Anne, making him the first member of the royal family to appear in the jungle.
But he’s best known for his career in the oval ball game, winning 75 caps for his country and famously playing in the 2003 World Cup final, where England beat Australia 20-17 thanks to Jonny Wilkinson’s extra time drop goal. Tindall himself had his own iconic moment that night in Sydney, picking up home Wallaby skipper George Gregan in a thunderous tackle – but his post-tournament celebrations were arguably more iconic.
On the plane back to Heathrow, Tindall came close to former Australian cricketer David Boon’s legendary record of 52 cans of lager on a flight to England. Boon’s bender came on a 1989 flight from Sydney to London, ahead of that summer’s Ashes series.
