I went to the Silent Witness set and now I can’t wait for the new series

Silent Witness: Nikki and Jack share a kiss Last season of Silent Witness fans were left stunned when Nikki Alexander’s (played by Emilia Fox) and Jack Hodgson’s (David Caves) relationship was put under strain. As fans eagerly await the new series to be released, I can exclusively reveal what fans can expect from new executive producer Jayne Chard and the changes to the set. I was invited down to the set of BBC One’s Silent Witness to speak to Jayne and have a look around the set. Before the tour kicked off, Jayne spoke about the changes that she had made coming into the series, 27 seasons in. She was passionate about her vision for the show and what she has brought to the new series, explaining they went with a “different vision”. The new cameras mean that the team can now shoot longer at night without having to fight at different times of the day. Another major change that Jayne was adamant to change was how The Lyle looked after feeling it looked “inconsistent”. Jayne explained that The Lyle is “home base and it’s safe”, changing the colours of the walls and the corridors so they are more consistent. The biggest change to the set is Gabriel Folukoya’s (Aki Omoshaybi) office and the cast will now be able to use the balcony for the first time ever in the series. Jayne explained that having the team be able to go outside will mean more flexibility with their scenes and camera angles. Paul Booth has also joined the team this series as the production designer and admitted that Gabriel’s office “didn’t quite work for us”. Trending During the new series, viewers will also get clarification that the meeting room is actually next to the mortuary which many seemed to be confused about. Walking into the mortuary set was surreal and daunting, seeing how real and effective the set designers have made it. I was also shown one of the dummy bodies they use to cut open which left tension in the air as I squirmed at the thought. When asked whether fans will be able to see the major changes throughout the sets, production and costumes, Paul expressed: “Die-hard fans might not even notice.” As much as they are proud of all the changes they have made, Jayne revealed they were still very conscious to be environmentally friendly with anything they use.
