‘I watched Anthony Sanchez’s Death Row execution, his hand went blue and nurses panicked’

Reverend Dr Jeff Hood has described the harrowing final moments of Death Row killer Anthony Sanchez who was executed by lethal injection – and claims nurses are being tasked with carrying out a punishment that ‘human beings shouldn’t have to perform’

A spiritual adviser who sat in on the Death Row execution by lethal injection of a murderer has claimed the killer’s hands turned blue and nurses panicked as it began to go wrong.

Reverend Dr Jeff Hood, spiritual advisor and close friend to Anthony Sanchez, has also revealed the convicted murderer’s final words as he went to his death continuing to protest his innocence as he had done for a decade – a belief shared by several others, but dismissed by authorities.

Hood, the convener of religious activist organisation Clergy United Against the Death Penalty, says he was forced to watch as restraints squeezed Sanchez’s hands so tight they cut off his circulation and his fingers turned a shade of blue, as he cried out in pain. The claims are denied by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Reverend Dr Hood told The Mirror.com: “You could see his hand turning blue, and he was like, ‘I can’t feel my hand.’ This was the third time this year I’d seen it. I know what an execution, a lethal injection, is supposed to look like. And [that day], it did not look like what it was supposed to look like.
